Info
All of
Washington's Shiras Moose hunting units are in
Northeast Washington, right where Bearpaw
Outfitters are located and have conducted hunts
for over 30 years. Bearpaw Outfitters are the
most experienced moose hunting guides and
outfitters in Washington. Past hunters have
taken some very nice moose and success is almost
always 100% because Bearpaw Outfitters not only
know the area extremely well, they also
pre-scout before hunters arrive for their moose
hunt.
Best Time
Moose hunting is
best either the first week of the season when
Bulls are vocal while rutting or later in the
season during November after the leaves come off
the brush and you can see much better.
Trophy Quality
Shiras Moose
average about a 40 inch spread in this area.
Most bulls taken with Bearpaw Outfitters are
between 36 and 45 inches but a few big bulls in
the area will measure 50” or more. Northeast
Washington has produced some record book heads
and there are plenty of good bulls, if you hunt
the right areas, no one should shoot a small
bull.
Hunting Methods
Moose hunting is
best in areas with plenty of forage. Bearpaw
Outfitters know which hunting areas consistently
hold good moose numbers and will spend the most
time glassing and hunting these areas which hold
the most moose so you can be more selective.
Shot Opportunity
Shot opportunity
on guided moose hunts is almost always 100%
because Bearpaw Outfitters know the moose areas
so well and scout in advance. Shooting distances
vary from 30 to 250 yards. Sight your rifle dead
on at 200 yards.
Licenses
Moose licenses are
issued through an inexpensive lottery draw
system. First purchase a moose application and
then apply for specific units over the phone or
online. If you are drawn then you purchase the
moose license and tag. There are also two moose
permits issued through a raffle, the tickets are
available on the Fish & Wildlife website. One
governor's moose tag is sold at auction every
year to the highest bidder. If you are
interested in bidding on the the governor's
moose tag Bearpaw can assist you.
Remember, if you don’t
apply, you'll never draw. Each year 100+ lucky
hunters draw moose tags and two hunters win the
raffle. Our recommendation is that if you are
serious about going Shiras Moose hunting; you
should apply in Idaho, Washington, and Utah. By
applying in several states you increase your
odds of drawing a moose tag much sooner in one
of the states.
Hunting Areas
Bearpaw Outfitters
know the moose areas well. Hunts are conducted
in the best proven locations.
